LANGHORNE, PA JULY 18, 1999 . . . Perhaps he is trying to save his sponsors some money. If Jeff Strunk wins the Motor Truck Equipment Co. Kenworth Cummins PA NASCAR Modified Championship Series title he just may tell the sponsors of his race car, Kenworth and Cummins, they can keep the point fund money. That is very doubtful!! Jeff Strunk. who is calling Bethel, PA home these days, is presently in front of the chase for the Motor Truck Equipment Co. Kenworth Cummins PA NASCAR Modified Championship Series title. The veteran modified racer sits with 8345 points and five feature wins. Strunk helped his title chasing cause considerably by winning the Motor Truck Equipment Co. Kenworth Cummins PA NASCAR Modified Championship Series 50-lapper at Big Diamond Raceway on Friday, July 16. The victory was worth $3,500 to the veteran racing talent. Should Strunk win the title, offering $40,000 to the top 15 finishers, he would earn $15,000 for his efforts. However the chase for the lucrative title is far from over. Kevin Hartnett of Perkasie, PA is currently second and has closed up behind Strunk dramatically in recent weeks. Hartnett has 7925 points. He has not won a feature but proves that consistent performance is just as important as winning features. Jon Kellner of Lansdale is third with 7630 points and he is another of the top point chasers without a feature win in the series. In fact it is only Strunk who has been able to visit victory lane this season out of the drivers filling out the top five positions. Dennis Bailey, Kutztown, PA, sits in fourth spot with 7335 points but no wins. And Shawn Reimert of Oley, PA is without a win but has 7020 points to hold fifth. The Motor Truck Equipment Co. Kenworth Cummins PA NASCAR Modified Championship Series continues for the NASCAR Modifieds at Big Diamond Raceway in Minersville, PA on Friday nights at 8 p.m. and on Saturday nights, 7:30 p.m. at Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, PA. Motor Truck Equipment Co. Kenworth Cummins will sponsor the Forrest Rogers Memorial for NASCAR Modifieds at Grandview Speedway on August 7. The event has been increased to 50 laps and will offer $10,000 to the winner provided the winning car and driver are carrying the proper decals and patches. With the proper decals and patches the winner will earn $5,000 for the classic. Sixth through 10th in the standings show Smokey Warren, Jonestown, PA, in sixth with 6685 followed by John Willman, Zionsville, 6555; Jack Hartnett, Telford, 6355; Glenn Strunk, Bechtelsville, 6185; and Mike Bailey, Kutztown, 6085 points. Only Willman and point leader Jeff Strunk have visited victory lane as part of the series point chase.
