New Egypt, NJ (Sept. 10) -- New Egypt Speedway will pay tribute to the rich and colorful history of regional stock car racing in its Legends of the Fall season finale, scheduled for Saturday afternoon, October 16. The event has a 2 p.m. starting time and a Sunday raindate.
All retired oval track champions in the tri-state area will be admitted free as guests of the speedway for this special program, which will feature interviews and autograph sessions with the sport's former greats. Area Auto Racing News columnist and noted racing historian Earl Krause will lend his expertise in recreating some of the old memories from bygone races and raceways. Some special memorabilia has been earmarked as giveaways to lucky fans. And the Garden State Vintage Stock Car Club will be out in force, displaying some very fine examples of restored race cars from yesteryear.
And there'll be plenty of '90s-style stock car action on the track, with a big tripleheader card filling the bill. The big block Modifieds will race 50 laps for a cool $5,000 to win; the Sportsman 40-lapper will pay $2,000 to the victor, and top prize in the 30-tour Street Stock special is worth $1,000. Qualifying heat races will determine the feature lineups with the drivers drawing for position.
Don't miss this memorable first-ever event on October 16 -- New Egypt's final race of the 20th century, showcasing the driving stars of today and yesterday. Past track champs who are retired from active competition are invited to contact the speedway as soon as possible, so management can set up interview sessions, print collectible autograph cards, and publicize their participation in this singular Legends of the Fall promotion.
