Northeast Region Feature Division points 2001-07-17

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (July 17, 2001) - Vern Bliss of Arcade, N.Y., continues to lead in the Competition Performance Index (CPI) standings in the Northeast Region of the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series. Bliss, who competes in the Late Model Pro Stock division at Holland (N.Y.) International Speedway, has visited victory lane six times this season. Bliss has nine top-five and ten top-ten finishes in ten starts at the high-banked .375-mile speedway. Barry Awtey of Jennerstown, Pa., continues to hold down second in the regional standings. Awtey, who competes in the Late Model division at Jennerstown (Pa.) Speedway, has scored two victories this season. Awtey has collected ten top-five finishes in ten starts at the .500-mile speedway. Keith Hoffman of Whitehall, Pa., has moved to third in the region. Hoffman, who competes in the dirt Modified division at Big Diamond Raceway in Minersville, Pa., has collected one victory this season. Hoffman has nine top-five and ten top-ten finishes in 11 starts at the .375-mile dirt oval. Todd Patnode of West Swazney, N.H., Monadnock Speedway in Winchester, N.H.; Phil Rozum of Cleveland, Ohio, Lorain County Speedway in Amherst, Ohio; Mark Cottone of McKeesport, Pa., Motordrome Speedway in Smithton, Pa.; J.R. Kent of Horseheads, N.Y., Chemung (N.Y.) Speedrome; T.J. Potrzebowski of Elmira, N.Y., Spencer Speedway in Williamson, N.Y., and Joe Hartmann of Calverton, N.Y., Riverhead (N.Y.) Raceway round out the top nine in the first tier of the Competition Performance Index (CPI) standings in the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Northeast Region.

The regional champions will be decided following the conclusion of the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series season on September 16. The NASCAR Weekly Racing Series national championship will then be determined by a ranking of the regional champions using the Competition Performance Index (CPI).  The top-50 drivers as rated by the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series CPI in the Northeast Region for the week of July 16 follow.
