Vern Bliss Keeps The Top Spot In The Northeast Region

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (July 24, 2001) - Vern Bliss of Arcade, N.Y., continues to lead in the Competition Performance Index (CPI) standings in the Northeast Region of the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series. Bliss, who competes in the Late Model Pro Stock division at Holland (N.Y.) International Speedway, captured his seventh victory of the season this past weekend. Bliss also has nine top-five and ten top-ten finishes in ten starts.

Keith Hoffman of Whitehall, Pa., continues his upward movement, as he takes second in the region. Hoffman, who competes in the dirt Modified division at Big Diamond Raceway in Minersville, Pa., has collected one victory this season. Hoffman has ten top-five and 11 top-ten finishes in 12 starts at the .375-mile dirt oval.

Todd Patnode of West Swazney, N.H., has jumped to third in the regional standings. Patnode, who competes in the Pro Stock division at Monadnock Speedway in Winchester, N.H., has scored two victories this season. Patnode has collected nine top-five and 11 top-ten finishes in 11 starts at the .250-mile speedway.

Mark Cottone of McKeesport, Pa., Motordrome Speedway in Smithton, Pa.; J.R. Kent of Horseheads, N.Y., Chemung (N.Y.) Speedrome; Neil Brown of Acme, Pa., Jennerstown (Pa.) Speedway; Rick Groetsch of North Ridgeville, Ohio, Lorain County Speedway in Amherst, Ohio; T.J. Potrzebowski of Elmira, N.Y., Spencer Speedway in Williamson, N.Y., and Joe Hartmann of Calverton, N.Y., Riverhead (N.Y.) Raceway round out the top nine in the first tier of the Competition Performance Index (CPI) standings in the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Northeast Region.

The regional champions will be decided following the conclusion of the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series season on September 16. The NASCAR Weekly Racing Series national championship will then be determined by a ranking of the regional champions using the Competition Performance Index (CPI).
