Jason Jefferson Takes The Rumble in The Rockies

KALISPELL, Mont. (August 7, 2004) - Jason Jefferson won the season's first two races of the NASCAR AutoZone Elite Division, Northwest Series season, but has struggled since then. That all changed Saturday night in the 6th Annual Rumble in the Rockies Miller Lite 125 at Montana Raceway Park when he took the lead from John Bender on the race's 16th lap and held off his older brother Jeff the rest of the way to post his third win of the season.

Series points leader Garrett Evans finished third and padded his lead in the process. He now has a 57 point lead on second-ranked Travis Bennett. With eight top-10 finishes in eights starts this year, Evans will be hard to be beaten in points over the last four races.

Wes Rhodes collected fourth place while Bennett rode home in fifth on the 1/4-mile high-banked oval.

Pete Harding, Joe Benedetti, Tom Sweatman, Jody Tanner and Brandon Riehl rounded out the top 10 in the cleanly raced event.

John Bender led the race's first 16 laps before being overtaken by Jason Jefferson. Bender's night would end early after suffering mechanical difficulties after 93 laps.

Gary Lewis earned his third Bud Pole Award of the season with a lap speed of 68.389 mph. He and Jeff Jefferson have now won three poles each for the season.

The Northwest Series swings immediately back into action next Saturday, August 14 for the Frank's Chevrolet 125 at Yakima (Wash.) Speedway.
