Lenior City, TN driver survives action-packed night & crashfest in Knoxville, TN.

(Knoxville, TN) Patrick Duggan scored yet another NASCAR Weekly Racing Series (NWRS) win at Atomic Motor Speedway on Saturday night snatching the lead away from Aaron Monger in a 50 lap dogfight filled with three and four wide racing as well as a night of dramatic crashes and flipping racecars. At the outset young upstart Corey Norman secured the lead until an untimely, early race spin resulting from contact with Monger sent Norman to the rear of the field following a caution.

After the restart Duggan worked furiously toward the front in a challenge to take the lead from Monger. All the while defending NWRS defending champion Mark Vineyard and Kevin Coffey were mounting challenges of their own weaving their way through high-speed traffic on the lightning fast high banked third mile oval. Duggan peaked beneath Monger on lap 31 and again on several other occasions in the ensuing laps.

Duggan pulled off the winning pass on lap 42, but still had Vineyard's charge to deal as the non-stop action raged on. Just as a wild three-car scramble for the win was shaping up, Vineyard was clipped by a backmarker as the pack exited turn four. Vineyard slammed hard into the turn four concrete as cars scattered crashing and bashing on the front stretch in the ensuing melee.

The cars of Vineyard, Roger Best and Roy Ledbetter were completely destroyed, none of their own making, as Duggan, from Lenior City, TN, maintained his pace on the following restart to score another big win in the chase for the 2002 championship at Atomic Motor Speedway.
