Robert Huffman Honored At Banquet

GREENSBORO, N.C. (Nov. 2, 1999) The 1999 Goody's Dash Series, NASCAR Touring Awards Banquet put the finishing touches on the 25th anniversary season of the NASCAR Touring Division. Over 275 guests honored Robert Huffman, along with his wife and car owner of the White House Apple Juice Pontiac Ashley, for winning their second consecutive championship Saturday night at the Radisson Hotel in Greensboro.

Huffman also won the 1990 championship as well as Rookie-of-the-Year honors making him the only driver of the Series to win both honors in the same year. Huffman's crew chief David Flynn was recognized as the winning crew chief along with members of the White House Aple Juice crew.

Goody's Dash Series Director Mike Simons and Goody's Senior Product Manager David Porter recognized the 20th through fourth-place finishers in the season-ending points standings to begin the evening's festivities. Several special awards were presented along with the top 20 drivers' recognition plaques. Series veteran and 1994 Goody's Series champion Will Hobgood was presented the 1999 Dedication Award from Simons. Simons also presented rookie competitor Joey Miller the Most Improved Driver of 1999 plaque for his steady improvement throughout the season.

Vice-President of Touring Operations and International Development Dennis Huth presented Angie Wilson the coveted honor of Most Popular Driver as voted on by her peers in the series. Huth also announced at the banquet that the 2000 season for the Goody's Dash Series cars would begin on Saturday, February 12, 2000 with their annual season-opening race at Daytona International Speedway. The race will be televised on ESPN2 at 8:00 p.m.

Jimmy Britts Jr. won the NAPA Oil Filters Rookie-of-the-Year honors which was the second such honor for the Orange Park, Fla. driver. He also won Rookie-of-the-Year honors in the NASCAR Slim Jim All-Pro Series in 1995. Britts, Jr. won two races in 1999 while runner of year Zach Brewer was the only other rookie driver to visit victory lane in 1999 with his win at Bristol Motor Speedway in July.

In addition to honor championship award, Huffman also captured the season-ending Bud Pole Award and Gatorade Front Runner awards which brought his total winnings for 1999 to $70,112.
