Hamner Has To Wait For Chance To Lock Up Southeast Rookie Title
19-Year-Old Finishes Eighth At Nashville, Gets Rained Out At Greenville

CHELSEA, AL (August 13, 2006) -- Josh Hamner was looking forward to wrapping up the 2006 NASCAR Southeast Series season on Saturday night at Greenville-Pickens Speedway and hopefully locking up the 2006 Southeast Series Rookie of the Year. However, Mother Nature had a different idea, postponing the event until September 23.

Now, Hamner will have to wait a month to add his name to a list that includes former Southeast Series Rookie of the Year winners Billy Bigley, JR Norris, Jason Hogan and Charlie Bradberry after finishing eighth in the Southeast-Midwest Series combination event, the Music City 100, on Wednesday night at Nashville's Music City Motorplex. The eighth-place finish moved Hamner into sixth in the overall point standings and extended his Rookie of the Year points lead to 55 points over Michael Foy.

"I really wish we could have gotten to race at Greenville because we were really looking forward to it after all we got to learn there the first time we ran there earlier this year, but it just wasn't meant to be," said Hamner. "We ran pretty good at Nashville and just made a couple of mistakes. I think we could have kept that going to Greenville and raced for the win and maybe jumped up even high in points. But I think we'll be ok when we go back there in September. Man, I hate rainouts though."

Hamner qualified sixth and started on the pole following the invert at Nashville on Wednesday night. He found himself in third and rode in the top-five for much of the night. However, a one-lap penalty from NASCAR forced Hamner to a eighth-place finish, the first car one-lap down.

"If I was on the lead lap, I think I could have raced with them and had a top-five finish for sure," said Hamner. "The car wasn't too bad. It was loose, so we decided to pit during one of the caution periods. When I pitted though, I pulled up to the front of the line to come into the pits and they said you can't advance up to come into the pits. That was my error there. That got me a one-lap penalty, which hurt me in the end.

"The car wasn't perfect, but it was still drivable. I missed
some good wrecks tonight. I thought I was wrecked twice. One time, I
was looking at the signs on the outside of the backstretch. I thought I
was gone then. Then, I missed another one on the frontstretch when we
were among the lapped cars. That one, I just closed my eyes and got
through it. It was wild."

Hamner will have some time off before returning to the track. The NASCAR Southeast Series will return to the track on September 23rd to wrap up the 2006 season.
