Sellers hopes to lock up NASCAR Division I and national titles Sept. 17 at South Boston
SOUTH BOSTON, VA. -- Danville, Va. driver Peyton Sellers has accomplished one goal. Now, he's got his sights set on two other major accolades.
Sellers locked up the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car championship at America's Hometown Track this past weekend by reeling off his 12th triumph of the season at the four-tenths mile asphalt oval. The victory also marked Sellers fifth straight at South Boston Speedway.
With only one event left in the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series points chase at South Boston Speedway, Sellers, who has claimed 15 overall wins for the season, is hoping to secure the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Division I championship and the NASCAR national crown on Saturday, Sept. 17 when South Boston Speedway hosts the Champions Night race program.
Sellers is the current points leader in the Division I standings and he also has the highest points total amassed thus far in the nation.
The Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division event will highlight the Champions Night program. It will be one of five races slated on the four-tenths mile oval.
Other events slated on Sept. 17 include races for the Limited Sportsman Division, the Virginia Army National Guard Pure Stock Division, the touring INEX Legends Series and the touring Legendary Flathead Series.
Justin Snow owns a 14-point lead over Jonathan Bailey in the race for the championship in the Limited Sportsman Division, while Joey Throckmorton leads Nick Igdalsky by 14 points in the chase for the Pure Stock Division crown.
Pit gates will open Sept. 17 at 1 p.m. and practice for all divisions will be held from 2:15 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 5 p.m. and qualifying time trials will get the green flag at 5 p.m. as well.
Adult admission for the race will be $8 up to 6:30 p.m. and $10 after that. Youth, ages 10-15, will be admitted for $5 and children under the age of 10 will be admitted free with a paid adult.
