FIELD: 28 Cars (Fastest 24 cars through one round of time trials. Four additional positions have been established as provisionals. Two are available to the top 30 drivers in the 2001 Goody's Dash Series, NASCAR Touring Championship Points who do not make it in on their qualifying time. The final two positions are available to the top 30 car owners in the 2001 Goody's Dash Series, NASCAR Touring Owner Points.

*The Goody's Dash Series has made six previous visits to South Boston Speedway.

Five time Series Champion Dean Combs won the inaugural event in 1977. The late Rob Moroso, Hut Stricklin, and Robert Pressley each have one victory in Goody's Dash Series competition at the track. After an eleven year hiatus the Series returned to South Boston Speedway in 2000, with 1991 Series Champion Johnny Chapman scoring the win.

* 1999 Rookie of the Year Jimmy Britts sat on the Bud Pole in 2000 and also established a new track record in his Horsepower by Hedrick Pontiac with a time of 16.209 seconds/88.840 mph.
