FUN, FOOD, PRIZES AND WILD RACING ACTION ON TAP FOR 50'S NIGHT

ST. AUGUSTINE, FLA.-Two fifty lap features, one for double points in the Rick's Muffler Man Modified division, top the card of this week's racing action for 50's Night at St. Augustine Speedway. In addition, race fans will be treated to some great music, coupons for free bowling, lots of free prizes, and some old favorites from the 50's like cherry and vanilla Cokes and 50-cent hot dogs. But the hot-dogs most people will be here to see are the ones on the other side of the safety fence. George Thrift continues his mastery of the St. Augustine paved half-mile in the Rick's muffler Modified division having won seven in a row and 10 out of the last 11 Modified events. The Modified boys will tangle this week in a 50-lap, double points showdown that may allow second place points man Robert Deal to close the sizable gap between himself and Thrift. The bounty on Thrift now stands at $400 for anyone who can beat the "Fernandina Beach Flyer" on the racetrack. If Thrift is able to win this week and next, the $500 maximum bounty will be his for having survived the onslaught. The Snap-On Sportsman Division is also on the card for a 50-lapper this week. Current points leader Kenny Hall holds a slim 24-point lead over Tiny Cline in this NASCAR Winston Racing Series division. But, the driver making all the noise right now in this division is Todd Ponce. After experiencing engine problems earlier in the season, Ponce has stormed back to score three consecutive wins and four out of five top five finishes. Also on the schedule for this Saturday night are the Late Models, Thunder Trucks, Hobbies and Minis. Gates open at 4:30, qualifying at 6 and the main events will start at 7:30. Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for Sr. citizens and military, $5 for children 6-12 and children under 6 years of age are admitted at no charge.
