SWS: Jason Allen Las Vegas test

LAS VEGAS& ...

LAS VEGAS– Jason Allen spent Wednesday preparing for the Nevada 100 Featherlite Southwest Series race Oct. 13 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

The Bullring’s 2001 NASCAR Late Model and rookie of the year will compete in his first Southwest Series race at LVMS. The rookie looks to gain experience and prepare for a full season next year in the Series.

“ I’m looking forward to starting the race and having a good clean race and hopefully run up in the top five,” Allen said.“ I want to draft with (Greg) Pursley. Hopefully, we can get our car as fast as his. I can get on his back bumper and help him all day. They have helped us get the car ready. If I can help him during the race, it would be the best thing for us to do.”

The 28-year-old Las Vegas resident clinched the NASCAR Late Model track championship and Rookie-of-the-Year honors in his second year of racing at the Bullring Saturday night.

Allen tested at 142.946 miles per hour, which wasn’t far off the track record for Featherlite Southwest Series cars of 143.927 set in 1998 by M.K. Kanke.

“ I'm pretty stoked,” Allen said.“ This is my first time on a big track. We're real happy with the car.”

Also testing Wednesday were Pursley (Southwest Series) in a car owned by Las Vegas’ Craig Keough, Brandon Miller (Southwest Series) and Jason Small (Winston West).

In addition to the Nevada 100, the 24 Hour Fitness 150 NASCAR Winston West Series race will run Oct. 13 and the stars of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series will return to LVMS for the running of The Orleans 350 on Sunday, Oct. 14. Tickets are available for all three events by calling 1-800-644-4444.
