BECHTELSVILLE, PA . . Back in 1991 veteran modified stock car racer Tom Mayberry teamed with car owner Mike Kelly to win the modified championship at Grandview Speedway. And in 1992 the duo teamed together to win the prestigious Forrest Rogers Memorial at the Berks County oval. And it was in 1993 when Mayberry and Kelly went their separate ways. This season Mayberry, Kelly, and crew chief Rick Fenstemacher are teaming up in searching of a rich NASCAR Modified title at the Berks County clay oval. In 1998 Mike Kelly, a former driver who was quite successful, teamed with driver Ray Swinehart to win the NASCAR Modified crown at the Bechtelsville oval. In fact the team picked up more than $35,000 in end of the season point fund cash and awards for a variety of accomplishments including a second place finish in the NASCAR Winston Racing Series Northeast Region. During the off season Kelly and Swinehart parted company, amicable separation, with Swinehart choosing to field his own team as he chases a third Grandview Speedway title. Mayberry has 20 career wins at Grandview ranking him 7th on the all time list. He had one win in 1998 driving for Rick Brinckman who chose not to field a modified team this season. During his career Mayberry, an auto body shop manager at A&T Chevrolet in Sellersville, PA, has won more than 70 feature races. "We are both familiar and have been very successful over the years in (Pete) Bicknell-built cars," stated Tom. "This car is last year's frame, and everything is brand new on the car for this season. We have a great crew with a great maintenance program, a good reliable engine program in CMS Engineers, and that will go a long way in the title chase." "I would really hope to win the championship again, but realistically I would be happy with about five feature victories and at least a top three in points," Tom concluded. Tom's employer, A&T Chevrolet, has signed on as a primary sponsor for the Kelly/Fentstemacher #712 Modified. In addition there will be sponsorship support from Golden Corral restaurant in Emmaus, Tim Long Insurance, Rumour's Cafe, A&D Fashions, Bob Hilbert Sportswear, CMS Engines, Intercomp, J&L Speed Supplies, J.P. Mascaro & Sons Disposal Systems, JD Enterprise, Kohuth Equipped, King Industries, M&E Crankshaft Services, Miller Welding Supplies and PRO Shocks. A&T Chevrolet will continue to sponsor the PICK THE WINNER Contest at Grandview Speedway. And on nights when Mayberry wins the prize money for the PICK THE WINNER program book promotion will be doubled. Mayberry will have plenty of competition in his quest for a second championship. Challengers include defending champion Ray Swinehart, Kerry Kratz, Dennis Bailey, Ed Aikin, Donny Erb, Chip Slocum, Terry Meitzler and a number of others. Saturday night racing at Grandview Speedway gets the green flag at 5 p.m. with NASCAR Modifieds, Sportsmen and Late Models being featured. A full series of qualifying races for each division is included. Grandview Speedway is located on Passmore Road, just off Route 100, in Bechtelsville, 10 miles north of Pottstown, PA.
