Brett Thompson Counts Toyota Speedway as One of His Favorite Tracks

JEROME, IDAHO (June 30, 2010) Brett Thompson will make is third NASCAR K&N Pro Series start of the season this Saturday night at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale, CA. The ulta-fast and wide half-mile paved oval located outside of Los Angeles is a track that suits his driving style and one that he hopes will be the site of his next victory.

Fresh off an impressive victory last Saturday night in CarbonX Rocky Mountain Challenge Series action, Thompson and his team are riding high. In racing, like many other sports, momentum is everything. "The win last week in the RMCS was really big for us," Thompson said. "Everybody around the shop is happy and excited and that boosts our confidence heading into Irwindale."

While Toyota Speedway is a totally different animal from the tight confines of Meridian (ID) Speedway, winning is winning. "We have always been fast at Irwindale but have had some horrible luck late in the races," Thompson offered. "We tested there last week and we feel really good about our car. The key is to qualify up front."

Four of 19 previous NKNPS races have been won from the pole at Toyota Speedway and the winner has started inside the top ten more than 50% of the time. "We tested our qualifying package and think we have a good shot at the pole," Thompson said.

Since most NKNPS events are impound races; meaning the set-up you qualify with is the set-up you start the race with, qualifying is about giving a little so you can take a lot. "Since the race is 200-laps with a break in the middle, we plan to just stay out of trouble the first 50 and then race pretty hard to second 50 (laps) to see where the car is at," Thompson said. "It all comes down as it always does to the last 50-laps or so; and hopefully we are in position to battle for the win."

"Toyota Speedway is one of my favorite tracks," Thompson said. "It suits my driving style really well. The three racing grooves make it a fun track to drive and go door-to-door with the other guys. I know the fans always see a great show."

Driving a team car to Thompson will be Taylor Barton our of Las Vegas, NV. Barton has two top ten finishes in three NKNPS starts this season. Barton is scheduled to make five starts total in the NKNPS-West and two NASCAR Camping World Truck Series starts this season in race vehicles prepared by Thompson Motorsports in Jerome, Idaho.

While in town for the race, Thompson and his team will attend the West Coast Stock Car Hall of Fame 2010 induction ceremony at the Azusa Greens Country Club Friday night. "The Hall of Fame is a neat deal for us on the west coast," Thompson said.
