Thompson Back Behind the Wheel for Phoenix NASCAR Event
Brett Thompson to Make First of Five Starts This Season in the NASCAR K&N
Pro Series
JEROME, IDAHO (April 5, 2010) After a decade of full-time competition in NASCAR's touring divisions, Brett Thompson will scale back his driving duties in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series in order to concentrate on building and leading his team in new directions. But he still hunger's for the thrill of competition from behind the wheel and will make his first of five starts in the NKNPS this Thursday at Phoenix International Raceway.
The mid-week event at PIR begins the weekend for the traditional spring stop at PIR for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. The event also marks the first "big" track event of the season for the West's oldest series celebrating its 57th year of competition. "I love racing Phoenix," Thompson said. "It is a special racetrack and one that everyone from the West wants to win on. We have a great car for the event and with only making a handful of starts this season, a win at Phoenix would make our season."
Thompson has started 94 races in NKNPS and has scored one win, one pole award, 19 top five and 54 top ten performances. Thompson's best Phoenix finish is a pair of fourth place finishes (04, 08). "Racing under the lights at Phoenix is really cool," Thompson stated. "We have a really good car for the race and with Charlie Wilson on board as crew chief this year we feel real good about our chances. With the race only being 100-laps this year, tire management and pit strategy is going to be crucial. Charlie has a great setup and that gives me a lot of confidence."
