Jonathon Gomez Focused on Future After All American Decision
TWIN FALLS, IDAHO (April 5, 2010) Jonathon Gomez, driver of the Heritage Cattle Co./Century Boatland Chevrolet from Twin Falls, Idaho is looking for redemption at Phoenix International Raceway this weekend after a second place on-track performance at All American was nullified. The Jimmie Johnson Foundation "100" is round two of the NASCAR K&N Pro Series 12-race campaign and marks the first of two visits by the series to the famed one-mile oval at Phoenix.
Gomez finished 19th in last year's event at Phoenix. While he finished on the lead lap last season, he knows this year is a much different race. "Last year we were really new and still trying to figure a lot of things out," Gomez said. "This season we are much further ahead in terms of equipment, personnel, and attitude. We have great cars and we know we are fast."
"Since the race is only 100-laps, we will need to qualify well and maintain track position," Gomez continued. "I have a lot of confidence in the setup that Craig (Raudman, crew chief) gives me, so it will really come down to me being smart on track and the crew delivering a good pitstop."
Idaho has been well represented at Phoenix in the past by Eddy McKean, Scott Lynch, and Brett Thompson. Gomez is ready to etch his name in the record books at Phoenix. "I like my chances," Gomez offered. "Racing is always about the next race and we have a great team of dedicated people who are all focused on winning. Phoenix is a race we want to win."
Jonathon Gomez is in his fifth year of competitive racing having won local track titles at Magic Valley Speedway in Twin Falls and competed in various Late Model events the past couple of seasons. He has started nine NASCAR K&N Pro Series races since 2008 scoring three top ten finishes. Gomez will also be behind the wheel of the Bob Strandwold SRL Southwest Tour car, and make selective starts in the CarbonX Rocky Mountain Challenge Series this season.
