SOUZA CAPTURES CAMPING WORLD SERIES WEST RACE IN UTAH
TOOLE, Utah (Aug. 4, 2008) -- If it is true that luck is the residue of design, then Todd Souza created his own good fortune and won the NASCAR Camping World Series West 125 at Miller Motorsports Park.
Souza trailed veteran Jim Inglebright at the end of the regulation distance, but a caution period extended the event by two laps. Inglebright, who pitted early for fuel and tires as a strategic gambit, used his second set of Goodyear Eagles for 102 miles of racing on the 3.06-mile road racing circuit but ran out of fuel on the final lap of the extra period.
Goodyear is the exclusive tire provider for both the Camping World Series West and East divisions. The tiremaker supplies bias-ply tires for the two divisions and the same line of tires is used by NASCAR's Canadian Tires Series.
Souza, who pitted later than Inglebright, was in the right place at the right time and took the lead when Inglebright slowed at the end. The winner averaged 71.364 mph.
Mike David finished second, 1.46 seconds behind the winner. Austin Cameron was third, followed by Moses Smith and Daryl Harr. Jason Bowles had the top car in qualifying lap averaging 94.888 mph.
Eric Holmes leads the standings with 1,621 points. Bowles is next with 1,564.
