Mayhew Tops NASCAR Camping World Series Practice at Miller Motorsports Park

TOOELE VALLEY, UTAH (August 1, 2008) -- David Mayhew jumped to the top of the timing charts in the second and final round of practice for the NASCAR Camping World Series West at Miller Motorsports Park on Friday.

Mayhew, driving the No. 21 BayBioDiesel/RCR Chevrolet, lapped the 3.06-mile road course at 1:57.508/93.747 mph, which is under the official lap record of 1:58.166 set in qualifying last year. The Atascadero, Calif., competitor had been third-quickest in Friday's earlier practice session.

Austin Cameron of El Cajon, Calif., turned in the second-quickest time of the day with a lap at 1:58.312, edging the 1:58.341 turned in by his teammate, Moses Smith of Tempe, Ariz. They were followed by Jim Inglebright and Jeff Jefferson.

Jason Bowles, who won the inaugural NASCAR event here last year and holds the track record, posted the sixth-fastest time after topping the first practice session. Eric Holmes, the current championship leader, was eighth-quickest.

In support race action, championship leader Jeff Westphal won the first of two 30-minute races for the Pacific F2000 Championship, taking the checkered flag 5.629 seconds ahead of Robert Podlesni, who is currently second in the championship. Chuck Hulse, Nick Freytag and Shaun Modisette completed the top five. Westphal, a 22-year-old from San Carlos, Calif., has won seven of the nine races held to date this season. Three races remain to decide the championship, one tomorrow at Miller Motorsports Park and two at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in October.

Saturday's schedule includes qualifying for the NASCAR Camping World Series at 10:00 am, with the 90-minute feature race scheduled for 1:45 pm. Also on the schedule are the second race for the Pacific F2000 Championship and races for three different groups in the Miller Park Racing Association. The on-track action will start at 8:30 am, with the first MPRA scheduled for 9:30 am and the Pacific F2000 race at 12:30 pm.

Off-track entertainment for fans tomorrow includes a pit walk, during which the fans can come out on the pit lane, where the race cars will be displayed, and see the cars up close and meet the teams and drivers. This will take place at 11:10 am. In addition, there will be live music throughout the day. A new offering this weekend will be rides in off-road rock-climbing vehicles on Miller Motorsports Park's new off-road course.

Tickets for Saturday are priced at $25 for general admission and $40 for grandstand seats. Kids 12 and under will be admitted free of charge.
