Scottsdale, AZ (February1, 2001) - The RoomStore, a Phoenix-based furniture retailer, has racing fever and it comes in the form of ace driver Ross Thompson. This weekend out at Phoenix International Raceway, Thompson will take to the 1-mile oval track for the NASCAR Winston West Series season opener Saturday February 3rd and Sunday February 4th.

Thompson, driver for the newly formed Triton Realty Motorsports team, will be behind the wheel of the #92 Ford Taurus with the support of The RoomStore, Dan Selznick. “I am proud to associate The RoomStore with Ross Thompson and the Triton Realty Motorsports team and in return strengthen our presence in the Phoenix community,” said Selznick. “We are excited to have a local hometown race, with a hometown driver and a hometown sponsor,” said Selznick.

Selznick met Thompson about four years ago while taking a racing class from Thompson at the Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving. It was at that time that Selznick discovered the championship potential in Thompson. He has followed his career since and has pledged his support to Thompson for the Phoenix race.

“Phoenix is one of my favorite tracks. This is my hometown track and I feel very comfortable here. I want to thank Dan and The RoomStore for giving me this opportunity. I hope to repay Dan with excellent results,” said Thompson, who will pull double-duty this weekend running with in the NASCAR Featherlite Southwest Series.

“It’s all coming together nicely. We tested last week and I was very pleased with what we have accomplished in a short amount of time,” said James B. O’Kane, Triton Realty Motorsports team owner. “Ross has a lot of experience on one mile ovals whether it be here in Phoenix or on other tracks. Just last season he won at Pikes Peak (P.P.I.R.) driving in the Featherlite Southwest Series. Pikes Peak is very similar to Phoenix, so we are hoping for the same results. Ross is in excellent physical condition and I have no doubt that he will be a front-runner.”

Round one the NASCAR Winston West Series will be televised on Fox Sports Net (taped-delay to be announced). The weekend begins with two practice sessions followed by qualifying on Saturday, February 3rd at 2:00 p.m. (Mountain). Sunday, Thompson will be signing autographs at 8:00 a.m. (location to be announced) before the green flag drops at for the 150-lap event Napa Auto Parts NASCAR Winter Heat event sponsored by Bosch.
