ESPN to highlight spectacular moments of the 2003 NHRA POWERade drag racing season in 30-minute special

GLENDORA, Calif. (Dec. 17, 2003) - The ESPN family of networks will air a special 30-minute show highlighting the on-track crashes and other incidents from the 2003 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series season. The special, called "NHRA Thrills & Spills," also will feature some fender-benders from the previous two seasons.

The show - hosted by ESPN's Bill Stephens - will premiere on ESPN2 on Dec. 21 at 1 p.m. (ET) and run again on ESPN on Dec. 28 at 3:30 (ET) and finally on Feb. 19 at 3 p.m. (ET) on ESPN2. There will be several driver interviews as well as a special John Force segment showcasing some of his best lines of the season.

The 2003 season saw more than one car take a wrong turn down the quarter-mile track. Larry Dixon and the Miller Lite Top Fuel team were one of the first to make the highlight reel with a spectacular crash. The Miller Lite dragster went out of control near the finish line during the final round of qualifying at Bristol Dragway, causing the car to skid across both lanes of the track. Dixon was uninjured and went on to win his first round matchup the next day in a back-up car.

Gary Scelzi, Del Worsham, Ron Capps and Tony Schumacher are just some of the drivers that will be featured in the crash special. Rivalries, including the heated starting line incident between Doug Herbert and Clay Millican, will also be one of the show's highlights.
