Past history of Marines Olds bolsters Larry Nance's confidence.

BAYTOWN, Texas - - Is Larry Nance superstitious? Not really! But the past history of his Marine Corps sponsored Olds Cutlass has the Akron, Ohio driver's confidence on high this weekend for the NHRA O'Reilly Spring Nationals, the fifth of 23 events on the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series.

"I feel positive about Houston," said Nance. "It was the first place that my Marines Olds went 6.90 (seconds). Most people don't know, but I've owned that Olds twice. Houston was the last place that it qualified before I sold it, so hopefully it will be the first place that it qualifies since I've repurchased it. It did well on the Houston Raceway Park track last time and I'm confident it will do the same this time.

"I love racing and am excited about getting back on the track. I definitely don't like it when I don't qualify, but, as I said, I'm really positive about this race. I have an attachment to this Olds and want it to qualify at least one or two, or even three more times before we bring out the new Jerry Bickel Chevy Cavalier in May."

As part of the marketing agreement with the U. S. Marine Corps, Nance, a former NBA all-star, conducted two basketball clinics in local Houston area high schools. As part of these clinics, Nance delivers a short talk about leadership, goal setting and an anti-drug message. He then plays several one-on-one basketball games with selected students and finishes the clinic by signing autographs.
