BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Just one week ago, NHRA Federal Mogul Funny Car racer Marc White had his hopes of winning a fourth consecutive race in a row go away in the first round when the Etterman Racing Firebird lost oil pressure after the burnout in Brainerd, Minn.

This weekend, White looks to put that behind him and focus on maintaining his Division 3 points lead during this weekend's NHRA Division 3 Federal Mogul Drag Racing Series event at Beech Bend Raceway in Bowling Green, Ky.

White, from Glendale Heights, Ill., comes into this weekend's race with a 40 point lead over the defending Division 3 Champion, Chuck Cheeseman. White has won the last two Division 3 races in hot, muggy conditions on marginal race tracks, and this weekend looks to be no different.

"Bowling Green is one of those race tracks that you just have to run what it will allow you to run," said White. "You can't go in there and try to rotate the earth, because you'll just smoke the tires. We'll just see what the track is going to allow us to do, adjust to the race track, and do the best we can do."

With the points battle so close, and the end of the season getting ever closer, White realizes how important this event is to his chances to pick up his second Division 3 title. White contends that he know that the points will probably be on his mind, but plans to overcome those thoughts with a bullish attitude to win.

"You can say you put it out of your mind and don't think of it," stated White. "I don't think that anybody can really do that. I just have to look at it like 'hey, I want to win the race, and do the best I can.' If you start thinking about points, you usually make mistakes and do things that you shouldn't do. You just have to try as hard as you can to treat it like any other race. That's difficult to do as the year gets later."

Based on past experience at this track, White knows that it will be a tough race track to negotiate. But, looking at his track record at hot race tracks this year, that might just play to his favor.

"I looked at the weather, and it looks like it is going to be in the 90's," commented White. "There's also a pretty good chance of rain. Bowling Green is usually a 5.80 race track, so if it's the same Bowling Green I'm used to, that's probably what it's going to do."

Qualifying begins at 4 p.m. Friday for the Federal Mogul Funny Cars.
