National Hot Rod Association: Goodyear teams won six times in the Rugged Liner NHRA Nationals at Brainerd, Minn. That gave the tiremaker an industry-best 96 victories in NHRA national event competition this season.
Kenny Bernstein grabbed his fourth victory of the season in Top Fuel competition, knocking off Larry Dixon in the finals. Bernstein has narrowed Dixon's lead in the championship standings to just 80 points. Doug Kalitta had both the lowest elapsed time of the event (4.597 seconds) and the top speed (322.19 mph).
John Force won in Funny Car and Jeg Coughlin was the Pro Stock winner.
Goodyear cars also posted wins in three sportsman classes. Arthur Gallant beat Shelly Howard in Top Alcohol Dragster, David Rampy rode his Goodyears to victory over Al Bresch in Competition Eliminator and Peter Biondo beat Rock Running in the finals of Super Stock. Goodyear cars are undefeated in the final rounds of Competition Eliminator this year.
Goodyear's 48 final round wins in the sportsman classes in NHRA national events leads all tiremakers.
