Line Edges Justin Humphreys at Brainerd Race
Justin Humphreys threw a scare into No. 1 Pro Stock qualifier Jason Line in Sunday's opening round of the Lucas Oil Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway, but he couldn't prevent Line from getting the win light.
Humphreys started from the No. 16 spot and that means racing the quickest qualifier. Humphreys' RaceRedi Motorsports/Knoll Gas Energy Pontiac GTO registered his best elapsed time of the weekend, 6.707 seconds at 207.45 mph, but it wasn't enough to hold off Line's 6.690 at 207.02.
"The weekend wasn't too bad," said Humphreys. "We struggled a little in qualifying on Saturday but we were in the top three for speed on our last run. We changed all kinds of things before first round and the car seemed to run a little better. We must improve in some places and we still have a few things to get squared away, but I'm looking forward to going to Maple Grove (site of the Toyo Tires Nationals, Aug. 17-19, at Maple Grove Raceway, Reading, Pa.). It's one of the tracks that is closest to home (Monrovia, Md.)."
Humphreys is in his first full season of NHRA Pro Stock competition.
