CONCORD, N.C. (April 11, 2014) - Ron Capps unleashed a monster run Friday afternoon in his NAPA AUTO PARTS Dodger Charger R/T to take the provisional pole in the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at zMAX Dragway near Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Capps led Don Schumacher Racing with a run of 4.059 seconds at 314.24 mph which was 0.015 seconds better than the next quickest Funny Car heading to Saturday's last two qualifying sessions.

Capps is on the cusp of his first No. 1 qualifying position since the 12th event of 2012 when he was on the pole to start the event at Route 66 Raceway near Chicago.

Not far behind Capps are DSR teammates Tommy Johnson Jr. in the Make-A-Wish Dodge, who ranks third with a time of 4.079 (308.57), and the Mopar Express Lane/Rocky Boots Dodge driven by Matt Hagan, seventh best at 4.088 (310.91). Jack Beckman holds the No. 10 spot for Valvoline MaxLife.

In the Top Fuel category DSR's Tony Schumacher, the most recent Top Fuel winner, posted a 3.815-second pass at 321 mph to take the fifth spot. Teammates Antron Brown and Spencer Massey sit eighth and ninth, respectively.

The fifth annual Four-Wide at zMAX, the world's only four-lane dragstrip, features heats of four drivers in two pair of lanes separated by a center dividing wall. Four drivers contend in each of four qualifying sessions to race in Sunday's 16-car elimination bracket again in four-car heats with the first two crossing the finish line advancing to the next round.
