Herbert Qualifies IRWIN Tools Dragster Eleventh

Competing at zMAX Dragway in the Inaugural NHRA Four-Wide Nationals, Doug Herbert qualified the IRWIN Tools Top Fuel dragster in the eleventh position with a 3.911 in his 2010 season debut.

"I was really excited to have a lot of guests from IRWIN Tools at the race this weekend," said Herbert, who will also sport the blue and yellow IRWIN Tools colors at the NHRA Carolinas Nationals in September. "You really have to come out to an event to get the full experience of drag race and this weekend, with the cars going four-wide, was definitely a good race to come to the dragway!"

The team used the set up from last September's No. 5 qualifying effort as a base on Friday to run two 3.911's. The IRWIN Tools dragster was consistent early in the weekend as the team became familiar with running four-wide, but suffered a broken throttle cable during the fourth round on Saturday.

"It's just great to be racing again," added Herbert. "I had a lot of family and friends here and we had some great fundraisers for B.R.A.K.E.S. It's been a good weekend so far. We're qualified eleventh, my number is eleven and ones are good numbers so I hope we have good luck tomorrow!"

In the first round of four-wide eliminations Sunday Herbert will face No. 6 qualifier David Grubnic; Antron Brown, who qualified third; and Terry McMillen, qualified fourteenth.
