The Senior Tour Takes On A Junior Partner

Ennis, Texas (Pre-Race)– Don Smith, owner and driver of the Texas Harley-Davidson Chevy S-10 Pro Stock Truck is please to announce the addition of a second truck to his racing team.

Steven Farr, Jr., son of Smith’s drivertrain specialist Steve Farr Sr., has been chosen as the driver of the teams second truck. The young driver from Colleyville, Texas will fly the Ft. Worth Harley-Davidson livery at the upcoming 16th annual O’Reilly Fall Nationals in Ennis, Texas Oct. 18-21.

"The Senior Tour has added a junior partner for this weekends race in Dallas. Steven Farr, Jr. will drive a second truck for our Texas Harley-Davidson team," said Smith of Keller, Texas. "His sponsor for the race will be Ft. Worth Harley-Davidson, our new Harley-Davidson dealership in East Ft. Worth. Not only is this a great opportunity to get Steven out on the racetrack again, but it is also a good opportunity to let people of Dallas know about our new store in Ft. Worth.

During the 2000 season, Steven Farr drove a Pro Stock Truck for Jerry Haas. During is tenure at Haas racing the rookie driver qualified the of the Haas Racing Chevy S-10 an impressive five times and went to the semi finals at the Pontiac Excitement Nationals in Columbus, Ohio. During his rookie year, Farr developed a reputation for lightening fast reaction times and a professional demeanor. The O’Reilly Fall Nationals will be Farr’s first time back in the drivers seat since leaving Haas Racing last November.

"I am extremely happy to be able to give Steven an opportunity to drive again," continued Smith. "With the cancellation of the truck series there are only a couple of opportunities left for him to get back behind the wheel and show his driving talents. I am just glad that we will be able to get him in the seat again before the end of the year. I have the utmost confidence that he will be able to qualify the Ft. Worth Harley-Davidson S-10 and go some rounds this Sunday

"Steven has proven that he has a talent for driving. He has a burning desire to become a professional driver. So, it makes me happy to be able to give this junior partner a way to display his driving talents. He might even show these old dogs some new tricks."

Steven Farr, Jr. "I am very excited to get back behind the wheel again," said Farr. "I have not driven in competition since last year. Sitting out this past year has been tough on me. I did help a couple of teams as a crewmember earlier this season. I learned a lot, but it is not the same as driving. So, when Don (Smith) offered me the chance to drive again; I jumped at it.

"I really think that this weekend I can qualify this truck in the top half of the field, and go some rounds on Sunday. I know everyone says that, but look at the team I have behind me.

"So far this year the Senior Tour has been tough to beat. Sonny Ray and the whole team have years of experience to draw from, and it shows in their performance. They have qualified Number 1, gone rounds, and even won the race in Topeka. I will have that same crew backing me up this weekend. So, I think their combined experience will give me a big advantage.

"We have also spent some time out at the Kennedale Dragstrip testing my truck. We now have my truck running just as fast as Don’s does. So, I really do believe that we can put this truck on the topside of the ladder.

"Once we get the truck qualified. Then as the junior partner, it is up to me to do my job and drive the truck. I am completely focused on winning, and my plan for Sunday is to take it one round at a time. To not beat myself, but to beat the guy in the next lane. If I can do that, then hopefully we will be able to put the Ft. Worth Harley-Davidson S-10 in the winner’s circle Sunday night."

Qualifying at the 16th Annual O’Reilly Fall Nationals presented by Castrol Syntec begins on Friday October 19 at the Texas Motorplex in Ennis Texas. Qualifying continues on Saturday October 20. Final eliminations will take place on Sunday October 21 at 11:00 AM CST.
