DIXON QUALIFIES SEVENTH WITH A 4.514-SECOND PASS FRIDAY AT DALLAS
ENNIS, Texas (Oct. 7, 2005) - Two-time NHRA Top Fuel champion Larry Dixon powered his Miller Lite Top Fuel dragster to the No. 7 qualifying position Friday at Texas Motorplex after recording a 4.514-second elapsed time.
On a cool Friday evening under the lights at the famed Texas drag strip, Dixon used a tune-up from crew chief Dick LaHaie to drive the Miller Lite dragster to a run of 4.514 seconds at 329.34 mph to finish seventh in the 16-car order. The Miller Lite/Lucas Oil rail had a mechanical malfunction on Friday's opening pass and recorded no time.
"We got down the track and got our car qualified in the show," Dixon said. "The car broke a blower belt on the first run, and we went from point A to point B on the second run. It's a good start to the weekend. Now, we can go into Saturday and try and improve."
Dixon and Don Prudhomme's Miller Lite Top Fuel team aim to improve when qualifying resumes with sessions scheduled for 12:30 and 3:30 p.m. (CT) at the Dallas-area track. Dixon won at Texas Motorplex in 2001.
