HOUGH, HEGGE NOTCH WINS AT CHAMPION RACEWAY'S LUCAS OIL SERIES EVENT

MEDFORD, Ore. (Sept. 26, 2009) -- The NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series from Champion Raceway, the last of seven on the Northwest division calendar, is in the books. Top racers in 11 categories were on hand vying for points leading to divisional and national championships. Junction City Top Alcohol Funny Car (TAFC) racer Brian Hough won the race, putting him back into the division's points lead while Top Alcohol Dragster (TAD) pilot Doug Hegge, Vancouver, Wash., scored his first win of the year.

Hough, the division's reigning TAFC champ, started the day from the No. 1 qualifying spot and made his best run of the day in the final where he squared off against Dennis Taylor of Anaheim Hills, Calif. In the final, Hough ran 5.759 seconds at 248.39 mph to Taylor's 7.845-second, 117.33 mph pass. The win gives Hough No. 2 for the year.

Hegge was the event's No. 5 qualifier and after suffering four consecutive first-round losses this is his first win. He knocked out No. 1 qualifier Justin Davis, Murrieta, Calif., in the final. Hegge put down a 5.659-second, 252.90 mph pass which was more than enough to cover Davis's 6.503-second, 147.37 mph effort.

Valinda, Calif., resident Val Torres ousted Brandon Yoder, Gresham, Ore., in the Super Comp final and Mike Ferderer, Buckley, Wash., beat Dave Kelly of Walla Walla, Wash. The win in Super Street went to Lyons, Ore., racer Ken Woodward, driving his '70 Nova. Kelly defeated Richard Tucker, Acampo, Calif., in his '67 Camaro. Although this is the last race on the NHRA Northwest division calendar, competitors may continue to earn points at out-of-division races until the season ends. The last NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event of the year will be in Las Vegas, November 5-8.
