National Hot Rod Association: Two all-time NHRA records fell and a track record was broken during the Mile High Nationals at Bandimere Speedway near Denver, Colo. Warren Johnson set the all-time record for Pro Stock wins when he won his 86th final round and John Force extended his all-time career victory record to 97 when he won the Funny Car final. Ron Capps set a track elapsed time record in Funny Car when he was clocked at 4.949 seconds.

Larry Dixon won the Top Fuel final.

The event served as the introductory race for Goodyear's new D1430 Top Fuel tire. The tire has been tested but had not been allowed in official competition before the Bandimere race. Top Fuel driver Doug Herbert used the D1430 during qualifying and Funny Car ace Chuck Etchells used a set during qualifying and eliminations.

"We're starting to gain valuable feedback on the performance of the new D1430 tire under race conditions," said Perry Bell, Operations Manager, Drag Racing.

All told, Goodyear won six of the 11 classes at Bandimere and made the final round in four others. Vern Moats, using the D1022 Federal Mogul Funny Car tire, advanced to the finals in that class before a mechanical problem knocked him out.

Other Goodyear winners included Tom Snyder in Competition Eliminator, Neal Rhodes in Stock Eliminator and Ethan Conyers in Super Comp.
