EARLVILLE, Iowa - It can be said that NHRA Federal Mogul Funny Car racer Randy Fleming has a pretty good record at Tri-State Raceway in Earlville, Iowa. In fact, perfect. Since the track opened two years ago, Fleming, the defending Division 5 Champion, has won every race competed in there. Fleming will be looking to keep his perfect record intact during this weekend's NHRA Division 5 Federal Mogul Drag Racing Series event there.

Fleming, from Independence, Mo., is currently qualified fourth in the eight car field, with a 5.946 at 247.25 mph. Fleming cites that the run was with a safe tune-up, and that there is more left in it for Sunday's eliminations.

"We had some good speed today, thanks to our Tom Conway tune-up," said Fleming. "We got the power. I short shifted low gear a little bit, just to get it down the track, A to B. We didn't hurt any parts. For the second pass, we tried changing a little bit in the clutch can. We didn't do much to it, and the e.t. showed it [5.97]. We have a nice, safe tune-up, and we'll see if we can't step on it tomorrow."

In round one, he will face Kirk Williams. Fleming and team plan to push the Fleming Motorsports 2000 Firebird a little harder to get the job done.

"We're going to leave the clutch and gear ratio tune-ups alone," stated Fleming. "We're just going to make an adjustment with the main jet, and see what happens. We don't want to get greedy, we just want to improve on the tune-up we have now. We want to make it three races in a row at Earlville."

Eliminations begin today at 11 a.m. Stay tuned to InsideFMRacing.com for the latest news from Earlville.
