Jersey Boys put on Show for Home Crowd
Englishtown , NJ. -- Qualifying has begun at the 41st annual NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Division 1 points meet presented by Cartec Motors at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park . Competition Eliminator driver Frank Aragona Jr. and Joseph Franco III in Super Stock took the No. 1 qualifying positions in their respective classes.
Aragona Jr., of Old Bridge, N.J. , outran Michele Costa also a N.J., resident with a pass of 8.340 seconds to take pole. North Babylon, N.Y. , resident Joseph Franco III took his '85 Camaro down the track at a time of 10.063 seconds to take the top spot. While Russ "Bubba" Linke who calls Old Bridge, N.J. home took third in Super Stock with his '73 Corvette.
N.J. was also well represented in Stock Eliminator where Evan Smith of Linden, N.J., took top honors with a pass of 10.913 seconds. In the No. 3 spot was David Ficacci of E. Hanover, N.J., who is no doubt looking to catch Smith in tomorrow's action.
Racing continues Saturday at 10:00 a.m. and will include both Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car. Gates open at 8:00 a.m. Tickets are $20 for adults; $5 for children 6-11 and kids 5 and under are admitted free with paid adult.
