Jeg Will Regroup For Race Day
In the third qualifying session Jeg Coughlin, Jr. made another improved run. The 45-time NHRA national event winner posted a run of 6.832 at 202.15 mph. The Jeg's Mail Order entry stayed in the No. 11 position and made the seventh quickest run of the session.
"The car spun pretty hard down low and I over ran second gear a touch," said Coughlin. "This was only the second run with this engine in my car and it is really starting to come around."
The two-time NHRA Pro Stock champion went into the final qualifying session looking to get a better handle on the tune up for race day. Coughlin ran a 6.913 at 202.42 mph in the final qualifying session.
"We were pretty aggressive with our set up during the final session," explained Coughlin. "I think we found what we don't want to do tomorrow on race day. The starting line has been a little tricky for us here. The weather is expected to be 10-degrees cooler tomorrow and we won't have as much humidity. Tomorrow will be a different day and we will have to adjust to the new conditions just like everyone else."
The yellow and black Jeg's Mail Order Chevy Cavalier will start race day from the No. 12 spot. Coughlin will face off against Kurt Johnson in the opening round. Lane choice will go to Johnson when the two meet.
