Englishtown, Saturday: Scott Weis was unhurt after crashing his Bruce's Super Body Shops Corvette Saturday at the 31st annual Matco Tools Spring SuperNationals. The Wiseguys, going for broke in what looked to be Saturday's only qualifying session due to weather. The crew needed a good shot with only a 14 second abort to show for Friday's dismal, cold, rain-shortened session. Weis crossed lanes behind his opponent, and caught the guard wall hard on the right front corner after pedaling one time too many in an attempt to save what was clearly a lost cause. This cost the team dearly as their 2000 Reigel body is probably a write off, and the chassis (built by Tootees Race Cars, an associate sponsor) could likely be saved, however the team may opt for new tubes and start with a clean slate.

Weis said "This is a tragedy for us, and made all the more so due to the fact that I clearly stayed with it too long in an attempt to get a decent run. It has been a real roller coaster after doing so well last week, and now the car being damaged will prevent us from making a few races, and may retire us for this year. I have to say a special thanks to Tootee for his meticulous chassis work . I have now, with today's incident put him to the ultimate test twice. My life hung in the balance, and today like the first time that I had the misfortune to have a problem this serious the chassis did not let me down. When the car started skating around I was fighting it, unfortunately I must have over corrected. Enough time had passed for the clutch to cycle out and start to lock up. The car was pointed straight towards the guard wall, and was really moving. I was able to correct and steer it back around after crossing over into the other lane, however it was too late, there was simply too much momentum.I drifted straight on across and punched into the wall hard."

"Brother, let me tell you that will get your attention. It felt like the hardest hit I ever took in a funny car. I am OK albeit sore, and I have the Lord to thank for that. Of course Tootee is standing by as always to help us, as soon as we get home and regroup and decide what course of action to take. I want to thank Bruce's Super Body Shops, Boninfante's Clutches, Tootees Race Cars, Shesayso Productions, Reigel Composites, the NHRA, Safety Safari, Bob Frye, Shelly Anderson, and to my fans who have supported us. Thanks, and we will be back. After all it's all part of racing."
