South Central Division Crowns Champions

ENNIS, Texas -- Racing is complete at the three-day long, NHRA South Central Division Summit Racing Series Finals held this weekend at Texas Motorplex. With that, a few lucky racers will now have the opportunity to represent there division at the NHRA Finals in Pomona, Calif. to compete against the winners from NHRA's other six divisions and will receive a cash award of $3,500 for there participation.

The NHRA Summit Racing Series South Central Division Finals were run today on a 1/8 mile track and when all was said and done, Texas Raceway accumulated enough points for the team title. In ROC No Electronics Jeff Hefler from Mansfield, Texas, drove his '48 Austin to a time of 5.089 seconds at 135.12 mph to take the victory. In ROC Electronics Rick Cothen of Artesia, N.M., outran Waskam, Texas resident Kevin Grubbs with a time of 4.758 seconds. Grubbs would however claim victory in the Super Pro category and go on to defeat Jimmy Lewis from Forney, Texas, in the Super Pro/Pro runoff.

Dennis Clark from Pasadena, Texas, piloted his '69 Nova to a win in the No E Quick category. In the No E Street category Lindsey Douglas from Jacksonville, Texas, took home the 'W' with Mike Griggs of Tuttle, Okla., close behind. Micheal Nash from Texarkana, Texas, held on tight to his '83 Honda in the Motorcycle class to run a time of 5.912 seconds and take home the hardware. And in the High School category John Long Jr. of Cleburne, Texas, defeated Zack Cooksey from Oklahoma City.
