Fractured pelvis threatens DeJoria’s championship chances
Alexis DeJoria’s rest and recuperation period following her pelvis-breaking shunt at Sonoma may prevent her making it to the Countdown to the Championship points reset.

Due to her injuries, DeJoria’s ability to race in the next three events leading up to the playoffs is currently being evaluated. Only the top 10 drivers in each professional category are eligible for the Countdown playoff, and DeJoria currently lies 10th win a win at Las Vegas.
Racing from the 11th position, DeJoria’s black-and-green Camry faced eventual winner John Force’s Chevrolet Camaro in the first round of eliminations at the Toyota NHRA Sonoma Nationals. From the green, the car turned right and the correction and loss of traction sent her violently into the left wall.
DeJoria’s Camry continued to travel down the track’s wall and into the uphill portion that’s the customary shut-off area after competition. Although she was able to emerge from the car unaided, DeJoria’s condition was evaluated by medical personnel at the track, who advised her Kalitta Motorsports team she should be transported by ambulance to Queen of the Valley Medical Center in nearby Napa.
Physicians at the medical center used X-rays and a CT scan to ascertain DeJoria has a high-energy fracture of the left pelvis, caused when the car slammed into the wall. While the injury doesn’t require surgery at this time, it is exceptionally painful.
She was released from hospital shortly after the diagnosis and has returned to her Austin, TX, home where she is resting and recovering. She will start intense physical therapy as soon as she’s able. DeJoria’s Kalitta Motorsports team were scheduled to compete this weekend at Seattle, for the 29th annual Protect the Harvest NHRA Northwest Nationals.
