GOODYEAR'S D2532 A WINNER WITH NHRA SPORTSMAN RACERS

JOLIET, Ill. (June 4, 2009) -- When Ryan Herem arrived at Heartland Park Topeka to race a Super Comp car in an NHRA national event there, he was competing in a dragster for the first time.

By the time he left HPT, the 23 year-old Californian was the event winner and Goodyear's D2532 rear drive tire was a big part of the story.

The D2532 is among the most recent additions to Goodyear's drag racing line, measuring 33.5 inches tall and 17 inches across the face of the tread. It mounts on a 16-inch wheel and its construction includes Goodyear's D2A tread compound. The tire was introduced into competition during the second half of the 2008 season.

Herem said the tire and Goodyear's engineering staff helped make the victory possible.

"The tire was great," Herem said. "It was nice to have the support. (Goodyear engineer) Dave Farwell checked out the tires in the staging lanes, came back to our pits and gave us some suggestions. It was very helpful."

The Super Comp category is part of the NHRA's Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series for sportsman racers.

Herem knows all about getting things right. When he isn't racing he works as an on-set mechanic in the movie industry, frequently working for Clint Eastwood.

"It was on a string the whole weekend," Herem said of the car he raced at HPT. "I didn't have to do much. It was smooth as silk all the way down the track."

Herem normally races around the southwestern United States in his own car in the Super Gas category. The Super Comp car he raced at HPT and will race again this weekend at Route 66 Raceway in the June 4-7 United Association Route 66 Nationals is owned by Henderson, Nev. owner/driver Justin Lamb. It was a Goodyear tip that led Lamb to use the D2532 on the Super Comp dragster.

"Farwell told me to," Lamb recalled. "It worked. I use it on my Super Gas car, too." Lamb said the set of D2532s now on mounted on his Super Gas racer has 60 quarter-mile passes on it and still works well.

Lamb will be racing in Super Gas this weekend.
