INDIANAPOLIS, Ind- O'Reilly Nationals Federal Mogul Dragster winner Jeff Wilson will be looking to win his second straight race at the Division 3 opener this weekend at the famed Indianapolis Raceway Park. Wilson set low e.t. and top speed with runs of 5.434, and 260.06, respectively, at the O'Reilly Nationals two weeks ago at Houston Raceway Park en route to his victory, but had his rig and racecar stolen following the race. The rig and racecar were both recovered, but 2 spare motors, and numerous spares were stolen.
With hard work over the last two weeks, the Winfield, Mo., based team will be back in Indianapolis, with a new smaller cubic inch combination that has allowed Wilson to take 85 pounds off of the car. Wilson looks forward to the new combination.
Wilson said, "We got everything pretty much back together, with a lot of help from Brad [Anderson], and B&J [Transmissions]. We had a lot of racers offer to help us, but hopefully it looks like we won't need it. Sometimes at divisional events, the traction is not there, so we will just have to wait and see what we can do performance wise, but we are hoping to be able to step it up just a little bit."
Wilson will be looking to claim his first Division 3 Championship this year, along with a strong national finish, but expects tough competition from his fellow Division 3 FMD racers.
"Division 3 has some pretty tough customers, with top caliber teams like Stark, Reichert, Bowen, and Hirata. Hirata has stepped up, and can run a number with anybody," said Wilson. "With Reichert and Bowen stepping up and going A/Fuel, you never know what they are going to come out with, but you can guarantee that they will be top runners when they get it figured out. We just got to be ready for them."
