Mike Coughlin and his yellow and black Jeg's Mail Order Chevy S-10 fired a shot in the first qualifying session for the NHRA Mac Tools U.S. Nationals. He laid down a 7.534 at 179.11 mph and marched up to the No. 2 spot. Mike posted the fastest speed for the class.
"That was what we needed to do. Angelo, Hans and Nick have been working nonstop getting ready for this race in the engine shop. It is truly a reward for hard work and dedication," explained Mike. "This is the first time that we have ever had top speed since we began racing in Pro Stock Truck. That is exciting and adds a lot of positive momentum to our program at the biggest and most prestigious race that our sport has."
John Coughlin and his Jeg's machine crossed the finish line beams with a run of 7.629 at 176.79 mph. He ended up in the No. 18 position by the time the first session was completed.
"We were really hurt by our 60-foot time. The engine that we have in my truck is a freshened Jenkins piece that we own. We will get this sorted out and be ready when the sun comes up tomorrow," said John.
