CLERMONT, Ind. -- Kenny Koretsky, from Richboro, Pa., recorded the second quickest elapsed time (E.T.), when he clicked off a pass of 6.864 seconds at 199.86 mph, during the heat of the first of two days of testing yesterday at Indianapolis Raceway Park (IRP) in preparation for the NHRA Mac Tools U.S. Nationals which will be contested August 28- September 2.
Koretsky's E.T., along with four other drivers, eclipsed the existing Pro Stock track E.T. record of 6.879 seconds set by Mark Osborne at last year's event. Only Ron Krisher, from Warren, Ohio, exceeded Koretsky's time. Krisher cruised the IRP quarter-mile in 6.862 seconds, followed by Koretsky and Warren Johnson, from Sugar Hill, Ga., who both recorded identical elapsed times.
Ironically, it was Johnson who nipped Koretsky by .0015 seconds at the just completed NHRA Rugged Liner Nationals in Brainerd, Minn., during eliminations on Sunday. The race marked Koretsky's first competition since the NHRA Chicagoland Dodge Dealers in Chicago (Joliet, Ill.) in June.
"We came to Indy to test to insure that our engine program continued on track," said Koretsky. "Crew chief Eddie Guarnaccia, Jr., and the entire crew have been working since the being of the year to get our engine program untracked. I think it is really showing results and will continue to do so over the last seven races of the season.
"We will use a lot of the remaining time during testing here at IRP to try some things that we are unable to try at a regular national event. We hope these new ideas will enable the KPK Motorsports racing program to move forward.
"In closing let me add that we should be able to announce a major marketing partnership on Friday or Monday that will give our program the financial support needed to run a "first class" operations and, while we can't win a championship this season, we can now be a team that the championship challengers will hate to race during eliminations."
