HERBERT GAINS GROUND IN COUNTDOWN TO FOUR
INDIANAPOLIS (September 3, 2007) The 53rd annual U.S. Nationals came to a close with Doug Herbert and the Snap-on Tools team gaining ground in the Countdown to Four.
After qualifying in the No. 11 position, Herbert faced Rod Fuller in the first round of eliminations. Herbert had Fuller off the line with a quick reaction time (.044 of a second to Fuller's .094 of a second), but the Snap-on Tools dragster started to loose power headed down the quarter-mile. Fuller took the win by a mere tenth of a second (4.55 at 322.27 mph to 4.65 at 306.05).
Despite the first round loss, Herbert moved up a position in the Countdown to Four. Now sitting in the No. 7 position, Herbert looks to keep moving up with three races left in this phase of the Countdown.
"We haven't figured out how to make it down the track on all eight cylinders," said Herbert. "We will have it figured out by the time we head to Memphis.
"Once we do that, there is no stopping us. We want to win the championship."
