Jason Line Looks To Improve At Bristol Dragway

Line Has Eyes on Perfect Father’s Day Present in Bristol

Throughout his competitive career Summit Racing driver Jason Line has put together an impressive resume. From his 1993 Stock Eliminator national championship and title in NASCAR’s top series as the head dyno operator for Bobby Labonte at Joe Gibbs Racing, to his 2006 Pro Stock championship in the NHRA’s Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, the Mooresville, N.C. resident has left his mark in the motorsports community.

However, when asked which of his accomplishments gives him the greatest satisfaction, Line quickly points to his marriage to his wife Cindy and their children, son Jack and daughter Emma. Therefore, with this weekend’s Ford Thunder Valley NHRA Nationals in Bristol, Tennessee coinciding with Father’s Day, it is easy to see what the current Pro Stock points leader sees as the perfect way to mark the occasion.

“I’ve been going to drag races ever since my dad would take my brothers and I to the track in Minnesota, so it’s natural that I would bring my family along with me whenever possible,” said Line. “They mean everything to me, so I really enjoy having them there, and they like it as well. Although Jack gets a kick out of the race cars and the noise and helps wherever he can, Emma just likes being with all the people.

“This year, they’ve also proven to be my good luck charms, as they have been at the track for all three of my wins. Hopefully, we can continue that string this weekend in Bristol, because I couldn’t imagine a better way to celebrate Father’s Day than by having my family join me in the winner’s circle at Bristol Dragway.”

For Line to achieve his goal, he will need to regain the consistency which powered him to three wins in the first six races. Although the performance has certainly been there in qualifying, with a string of seven races where he has started no worse than fourth, including pole positions in Charlotte and Englishtown, they come to the Volunteer State determined to reverse a two-race trend of uncharacteristically early exits on race day. Fortunately, a fast car and a history of prior success at Bristol Dragway seem to stack the odds in favor of a return to form.

“The competition in Pro Stock is closer right now than it has been in some time, so you have to take advantage of every opportunity,” said Line. “That is an area that at the moment we need to improve upon. For example, at the last few races, we felt we had the best car, one capable of winning the race, but came home without the Wally. That was hard to take, but we used it as motivation.

“The good news is that the pieces are all there. Our Summit Racing Pontiac has been very fast, and fairly consistent, so there’s no reason to expect it won’t be that way this weekend in Bristol. It all comes down to everyone doing their jobs as best as possible and making the right calls on race day. It won’t be easy by any means, but I believe we are fully capable of winning not only this race, but every race. We just need to make it happen, because I couldn’t think of a better Father’s Day present for all the Dads on this KB Racing crew.”
