GAINESVILLE, FL-Federal Mogul Dragster driver Jay Meyer looks to stay hot at the Mac Tools Gatornationals in Gainesville, Florida this weekend. After Rick Santos' win at the Tucson, Arizona Division 7 race last weekend, Meyer has fell to second nationally in points. Meyer wants to stay in the thick of things with a win in Gainesville.

"We're going down there to try to win. We are trying to wind up as high as we can nationally at the end of the year. We realize that we might not be able to stay up with Santos this year, but we are going to try to finish as close to him as we can," Meyer said.

"Gainesville [Gatornationals] has always been a good race for me," Meyer added. "We had a broken motor that we hurt in Phoenix [Checker's-Schuck's-Kragen Nationals], that just got back, so we decided at the last minute to go ahead and go down there."

Meyer goes into Gainesville hot off of a win at the Division 4 race in Ennis, Texas two weeks ago. Meyer has two wins on the year, and looks to add a national event to that in Gainesville. Meyer's last national event victory was at the 1983 Mile High Nationals.

"I would definitely like to win another one [national event]. That first one came so easy, in my first full year of racing, I thought we were going to win 100 of them. But it sure hasn't worked out that way," laughed Meyer. "I would like to get another "Wally" [national event trophy]. That little gold man has been pretty lonesome for a long time. I would like to get one more for a companion to go with him."

After Gainesville, Meyer will head back to Division 4. The following weekend is the third stop in the Division 4 series at Memphis Motorsports Park, where he will try to make it three Division 4 wins in a row, and get one step closer to a Division Championship, which he hasn't won since 1986.
