Mike Coughlin and his Jeg's Mail Order Chevy S-10 started raceday from the No. 1 qualifying position for the third straight race. Coughlin reset the national record during the third qualifying session with an impressive run of 7.379 at 182.65 mph and was rewarded with the 20-point bonus.

The yellow and black Jeg's machine entered raceday with chance to win his third straight race of the season in Pro Stock Truck. Only two drivers have ever won three Pro Stock Truck races consecutively ('98 Larry Kopp & '00 Randy Daniels).

In the opening round Mike Coughlin faced off against Scott Tidwell. Lane choice went to Coughlin and he stuck with the preferred left lane. The two drivers had never raced in competition previously.

The two Chevy S-10's staged carefully together. Tidwell left the starting line first by .019 seconds (.433 to .452). By the time the yellow and black Jeg's Mail Order Chevy S-10 passed the 330-foot clock he was in front to stay.

Mike Coughlin took the win light by .0337 seconds at stripe. He ran a conservative 7.402 at 182.38 mph and was rewarded with lane choice for the second round.

"Our goal going into the first round was to get lane choice for the second round and we accomplished it as a team. We just focused on not making mistakes as a group. We are really getting a firm handle on this engine and what the it likes," explained Mike.

In the second round Mike faced off against Greg Stanfield. Both drivers rolled into the lights very carefully. Stanfield took a shot at the tree and had a .401 reaction time and Mike trailed by .056 seconds. The "GR-X" engine came on strong and was closing the gab with each foot the two Chevy S-10's got closer to the finish line.

The win light went to Stanfield by .0028 seconds on a hole shot. Mike ran a 7.385 at 182.28 mph.

"He did what he had to do and it happened to pay off for him. Our group worked hard all weekend and it showed. We gained more points and left Route 66 Raceway with the national record. Team Jeg's will head back to the shop and right to the engine room. We intend to finish the season with a bang," said Mike.
