Stark looking to repeat last year's Indy win

CLERMONT, Ind. - One year ago, NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster driver Keith Stark won the biggest race in drag racing, the Mac Tool U.S. Nationals at the famed Indianapolis Raceway Park. This year, Stark and his Spitzer Coach Works backed team hopes to repeat that feat in their A/Fuel (injected nitro) Dragster.

Stark, from Danville, Ill., hopes that being back on a national event track the caliber of IRP will play into his hopes of a repeat.

"We have a pretty good tune-up for good air and good tracks," said Stark. "And we have been working on our bad air/bad track tune-up, and have made a lot of progress. The ultimate goal is to be able to run well in any conditions that are thrown at you, and I think we are getting there. I think we should see some decent air conditions this weekend coupled with a good track, so I hope we can run some good numbers."

"You always want to win Indy, and to do it two years in a row, which is something nobody has ever done in our class would make it that much sweeter," Stark added.

Stark feels it will take consistent 5.3 to 5.4 second times to get the win this weekend.

"You will definitely have to be able to run .30's and low .40's with the field that will be there this weekend," stated Stark. "That is what we are shooting for."

Qualifying begins on Thursday for the alcohol cars.
