TROXEL TAKES NO. 1 QUALIFYING POSITION IN GET SCREENED AMERICA PRO MOD SERIES ACTION AT LAS VEGAS
LAS VEGAS -- Melanie Troxel claimed her first No. 1 qualifying position of the season Saturday in the NHRA Get Screened America Pro Mod Drag Racing Series portion of the NHRA Las Vegas Nationals.
The versatile drag racing veteran, who also is competing in Funny Car action in the NHRA Full Throttle Series at this event, won at the last Pro Mod event at Charlotte, N.C. in her In-N-Out Burger '63 Corvette. Troxel earned the top qualifying position by posting a quick performance of 5.907 seconds at 246.30 mph at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Troxel will face Chip King in Sunday's opening round of eliminations, which will begin at approximately 10 a.m. local time at the final of 10 races in the 2010 season.
Series points leader Von Smith, who qualified No. 6 in his Barwa/Al-Anabi Racing '68 Camaro, will become the first world champion in NHRA's newest national touring series by taking the tree in the first round against Mike Knowles.
Other key first round pairings include No. 2 qualifier Brad Personett taking on Joe Baker; No. 3 qualifier Jay Payne will meet Dennis Radford; and No. 4 qualifier Rick Stivers will face Ed Hoover.
