BAYTOWN, Texas - After having a dismal outing in Memphis several weeks ago, Marc White and the Bars Leaks/Etterman Racing team bounced back to a quarterfinal finish during this past weekend's O'Reilly Spring Nationals presented by Pennzoil at Houston Raceway Park. White qualified strong in the Bars Leaks Top Alcohol Funny Car, but came up just short against eight-time World Champion Frank Manzo in the quarterfinals.
White, from Glendale Heights, Ill., qualified the Bars Leaks Firebird sixth in one of the toughest TAFC fields in history with a 5.675 second elapsed time at 251.44 mph. In round one he took out Jackie Stidham with a 5.679 at 253.09 mph. In his bout with Manzo, White experienced heavy tireshake and slowed to a 5.762 at 248.07 mph while Manzo kept up his torrid pace to a 5.605 at 258.81 mph.
"It's pretty tough any time you have to go up against Manzo," said White. "We got into a lot of tireshake that lap, and that definitely hurt us. The main thing is we got the car going back down the track good in the 5.60's this weekend. We're within striking distance of the guys running .50's, we just need to do our homework, and that's what we have planned. We're not just going to sit on what we have. We want to get this Bars Leaks hot rod in the .50's, too."
The next race for the Bars Leaks/Etterman Racing team will be the NHRA Division 3 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series opener at Route 66 Raceway just outside of Chicago, April 25-27. Stay tuned to InsideTopAlcohol.com for the latest news in alcohol racing.
