GOODYEAR-SHOD TEAMS WIN FOUR TIMES AT MID-SOUTH NATIONALS
MILLINGTON, Tenn. (Aug. 22, 2005) -- Four drivers racing on Goodyear tires won their class in the O'Reilly NHRA Mid-South Nationals at Memphis Motorsports Park. That performance equaled the win total of all other tire manufacturers combined.
Under very hot, humid conditions Rod Fuller won in Top Fuel, Eric Medlen won in Funny Car, Greg Anderson won in Pro Stock and Brad Plourd won in Super Comp. Those final round victories bring Goodyear to an industry best 89 in NHRA national event competition. All other tiremakers combined have 74.
Roger Brogdon, racing on Dunlop tires, took the win in Competition Eliminator. Dunlop is a member of the Goodyear family of companies.
In the NHRA Powerade professional competition, Fuller's victory was his first as a professional and came in just his 19th pro race. He beat Tony Schumacher in the final. Schumacher recorded lowest ET of the weekend, a pass completed in 4.610 seconds. Larry Dixon had the best speed of the event, 314.61 mph.
Medlen's victory was his second straight. He beat Ron Capps in the final.
Anderson beat Kurt Johnson in his final round and improved his lead in the standings.
In the Lucas Oil Sportsman classes, Plourd gave Goodyear its second Super Comp victory this season.
Teams racing on Goodyear tires have won at least twice in every Lucas Oil Sportsman class in national events this season.
