Memphis JEG'S Sunday Race Report

The first round of Pro Stock put the two Coughlin's head-to-head, a match-up that the team never wants to happen-especially in the first round. Troy had lane choice in this battle and took the left lane.

Both of the yellow and black JEG'S Mail Order cars staged together. NHRA Chief Starter Rick Stewart activated the "Christmas tree" and Jeg took the reaction time advantage off of the starting line. The two cars raced side-by-side in a great looking drag race for the fans.

Jeg took the win light by a true margin of victory of .009 seconds at the finishline. Troy noted, "Whenever we race (Jeg and I) we know that a JEG'S Mail Order car is going to the next round to carry our company colors closer to a win."

In the second round Jeg lined up next to George Marnell and his Dynomax entry, Marnell had lane choice and took the left lane. Jeg took a big advantage off of the starting line and never looked back. The win light came on for the Coughlin and the JEG'S Team.

Jeg commented, "The car was a little sluggish in low gear, but when it went into second gear it took off right down the center of the groove." The teams efforts were rewarded with lane choice for the semifinal round.

The semifinal round was a rematch of last weekends final round at the NHRA Advanced Auto Parts Nationals in Topeka. Jeg Coughlin and Mike Edwards faced off, Coughlin had lane choice and took the left lane.

Jeg took the starting line advantage by .010 seconds over Edwards, who followed close behind. The two cars raced down their respective lanes toward the finishline, they were side-by-side all the way to the finishline. Edwards took the win light by .012 seconds and advanced to his second final round in two weeks.

Jeg noted, "The car moved around a little in low which hurt us down track. Our team is heading back to the shop from here to go through everything in both cars and get them ready for Dallas, Houston and the finals in Pomona."

Mike Ends His Day In The Semifinal Round

In the first round of Pro Stock Truck Mike and his #28 yellow and black JEG'S Mail Order Chevy S-10 lined up next to Jeff Lukovich. Coughlin had lane choice and took the left lane.

The two Chevy S-10's rolled into the lights together-no games. Jeff Lukovich left the starting line first, but he fouled out and turn the red light on. The win light came on for Mike Coughlin and the JEG'S Team.

Mike ran an impressive 7.61 at 176.26 mph in the heat. Coughlin commented, "We made a good run, but the track threw us a curve ball. I think that we could have made a better run."

The second round was a classic battle, JEG'S -vs- Summit. Mike Coughlin had lane choice over John Lingenfelter, Coughlin took the left lane. Mike took the starting line advantage. The JEG'S S-10 launched from the lights and cruised down the middle of the groove to take home an important win for the loyal and hard working employees of JEG'S Mail Order. Lingenfelter ran into problems and was forced to shut off.

Mike noted, "The guys did a great job with the setup, they did their job and I did mine." Mike and his yellow and black JEG'S Mail Order S-10 made the second quickest run of the round and lost lane choice for the semifinal round.

Mike faced off against Randy Daniels in the semifinal round, Coughlin was in the right lane for this match-up. Randy Daniels took the starting line advantage from Coughlin. Both of the Chevy S-10 rocketed side-by-side to the finishline. Daniels took the win light by .016 seconds at the stripe.

Mike said, "That was a close race at the finishline. The guys did a great job this weekend and I'm looking forward to finishing the '99 NHRA season with a bang."
