24th Annual U.S. Pro Stock Open at Maryland International Raceway Quick Results - May 13, 1998

The 24th annual running of this prestigious event brought the best in NHRA Pro Stock racing to tiny Budds Creek, MD, and its venerable sea-level drag strip. Temperatures in the 50-degree range and a track surface that owner Royce Miller and staff massaged from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. produced three 6.8-second runs and a new track speed record. In addition, the U.S. Pro Stock Open featured its first all six-second field.

Jim Yates won the event for the second straight year, defeating Kurt Johnson in the final. Yates set low E.T. at 6.884 seconds -- a run on which he recorded the quickest 60-foot time in the history of the category, .998 seconds. Warren Johnson set Top Speed of the Meet with a 198.41-mph blast in qualifying.
